The RVSC is the primary fundraiser for NCF with money raised supporting youth and adult educational programs, scholarships, research and infrastructure projects, history preservation and judging teams at Nebraska colleges. NCF would like to recognize the support of our longtime partner, Darr Feedlot of Cozad, for feeding the steers and managing RVSC administration. Three winners of each of the three categories were awarded for their steers' performance in the Retail Value Steer Challenge. First place in the Average Daily Gain category was awarded to the steer owned by Waypoint Bank, Cozad; second place went to a steer owned by Niobrara Valley Vineyards, Nenzel; and third place was a steer from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Animal Science Teaching herd – Matt Spangler, Ph.D. In the Carcass Value category, first place went to a steer owned by High Plains Feed Yard, Mitchell; second place was awarded to Cross Diamond Cattle Company, Bertrand; and third place went to a steer owned by Ron and Nancy Kvols, Wisner. First place in the Total Value category was a steer owned by Anderson Grain, Kearney; second place went to the steer owned by 21st Century Equipment, Scottsbluff; and third place went to Dinklage Feed Yard, Inc., Sidney. The 2024 Retail Value Steer Challenge will be the foundation’s 25th RVSC and will begin this fall. NCF welcomes steer donations by individuals, businesses, groups of individuals or businesses and Nebraska Cattlemen affiliates. Donors can donate their own steer or purchase one from the foundation. Donors do not have to own the whole steer if they would prefer to only own one-quarter, one-third or one-half.
