NCSept2023

September 2023  Nebraska Cattleman  39 would create the Last Acre Program at the Office of Rural Development, ensuring that USDA has the strategy and resources necessary to support expanded rural connectivity. Another priority of mine in this Farm Bill is preserving safety net programs like crop insurance. I know these programs are essential to producers. Since the beginning of the year I’ve met with the Nebraska Cattlemen multiple times – both in Washington and at home – and we always agree that a strong safety net is critical to maintain over the next five years. That safety net should be coupled with faster, more efficient disaster relief. This is especially important for Nebraska, considering the wildfires, floods, blizzards and other disasters we’ve had to navigate over the last few years. During this session of Congress, I introduced the Emergency Conservation Program Improvement Act, which would reform the Emergency Conservation Program to provide producers affected by disasters with advances on cost-sharing relief. That way, farmers and ranchers won’t have to wait for help. The 118th Congress has already produced a series of victories for the agriculture community in Nebraska. I voted to overturn the harmful, overreaching Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. I’ve introduced legislation to stop the EPA from regulating manure odors. I co-led legislation to ensure that state regulations like California’s Proposition 12 don’t interfere with how Nebraskans raise our livestock. And through my support of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Nebraska received a more-than $400 million investment into expanding broadband access, a game-changer for the many producers who rely on the internet to operate precision technologies. This month, I am hopeful that we will deliver more for the Nebraska producers who feed and fuel the world. Farmers and ranchers in Nebraska are carrying on a legacy of agricultural success, and I will help them do so as long as I serve in the Senate.  NC  NC Events Husker Harvest Days Catch the Nebraska Cattlemen (NC) membership team at the 2023 Husker Harvest Days, Sept. 12-14, in Grand Island.
